Vacation Plans

Most of the arrangements have been made. We will leave for Montreal May 14th and return the 25 or 26th, depending on whether we find something interesting along the route back home.

One objective of the trip is to visit my home town of Waterville Maine. I used to buy only Hathaway Shirts. We left Maine in 1957 and I have not returned since.

Our first stop after visiting some friends in Montreal and Knowlton will be at Auberge Au Lion D’Or. They have a golf/gourmet dinner package. The hotel is located in the shadow of Mount Orford, just north of Lake Memphramagog.

Following that we will drive into Maine and spend our first two days at Sugarloaf. Coincidentally they too have a golf package. From Sugarloaf, we will drive through Waterville on our way to Rockport Maine. The weekend will be spent on the coast at Samoset Resort. I have booked an ocean view room. While they do offer a golf package, unless serendipity emerges, we will take the weekend off. This will give us a chance to drive around the area, including follow-up trips to my home town if that makes sense.

After Rockport we will drive inland to Sunday River. Here we will get back into the swing of things. Our last two days will be in Vermont at Stowe. From there we will drive across north-western New York State across the St. Lawrence and back into Canada. I have not been through this part of the state, but judging by Google Maps this area of New York State looks mostly wilderness. Should we find something interesting along the way we may stop off and spend an extra night.
