The first indication that SOA and Web Services are separate things is that SOA has been around for longer than Web Services have.
It’s not that I have a problem with the statement; they are different. ZapThink knew it all along:
And yet, we realized back in 2002 one fundamental truth that is every bit as prophetic today as it was when we wrote our Service-Oriented Integration report in June of that year: that while Web Services alone can reduce the cost of integration, only by moving to SOA can an organization reduce the long-term cost of business change.
But why state it now, five years after their prophetic statement? Has something changed? The article doesn’t include anything new. May be it was just a slow news day and they needed something to fill space.
