The accountant’s nightmare

Google has the notion of “20% time,” meaning that 20% of an employees work time may be spent on personal projects. That’s one day a week an employee can drop his planned task list and spend time on tasks related to a project they have spawned.

Bad for productivity the accountant would observe. Good for business the owner would observe. 50% of all new products over the last 6 months came from work related to this “20% time.”
