The Hertha Store

In the last week or so I’ve opened the Hertha Store; a page where selected images can be downloaded.  All images are priced at $0.00 for personal use (i.e., Creative Common: non-commercial, no derivatives, attribution; Contact me otherwise or general questions).

Setting up a store allows me to put in place some consistency around the quality of the digital representation of the image and discipline around the download process. It also provides an organization for the images and a shopping cart.

The downside is to get these features I needed to connect to a credit card processing service and by doing that, additional information is required (e.g., billing address) for fraud protection.  However, for zero-dollar purchases, the credit card company is not consulted and therefore, billing address is not requested (even though the fields are there).

While e-mail and telephone number are requested for zero-dollar purchases, if one is willing to download using the link supplied immediately following the purchase, then neither e-mail nor telephone need to the correct.
