Konica Hexanon AR 35mm F2.8

in

I’ve been looking for a 35mm lens for a while.  My core set of lenses is an 18mm, 28mm, 50mm, 90mm, 200mm and 400mm so the range is covered fairly well.    For me, a 35mm is an intermediate lens (meaning it fits in a gap between two lenses I have already); not a mandatory but a nice to have.  Yet, 35mm is a classic focal length so it also carries a sentimental value.   As such, my compromise was to buy a used lens, specifically a Konica 35mm.  There are two version of the lens: an F2.0 and an F2.8. Both versions deliver similar quality, however, the F2.0 version is larger and heavier. For my purposes, F2.8 is fast enough so size and weight become the deciding factor.

Within the F2.8 line there are four variations, 3 providing a minimum aperture of F16 and the latest variation is at F22.  The latter is lighter and smaller than the F16 variation, but is hard to find, so I purchased the F16 version.

During our recent trip down to Florida I was able to take it for a spin while we toured through the Everglades.

I was impressed by the sharpness of the lens.

I’ll keep on the look out for the F22 version, but in the meantime this lens will do the job.
