Pressure

The fallout from the cross examination of the former Chief of Staff during the Mike Duffy trials are certainly elevating tension among Conservative Party members as demonstrated in the video in a CBC news item.  It presents another knock on the Conservative Party’s integrity, which is one of their foundational platforms and one that they developed to defeat the previous government.

For those who watch the full speeches on CPAC, for example, one sees the same questions being asked of the Prime Minister every day, followed by the same answers.  Comparing among the different parties, the audience standing behind the PM during these questions session is quite somber.  It is repetitive, and apparently frustrating. Each cycle appears to be ratcheting up the pressure on the Party and obviously one of its membership cracked first.  To his credit the PM tried to quell objections voiced by supporters when the questions were raised.

It’s unclear how this will affect the Party’s position in the polls.  Some pundits suggest the impact is already baked in.  Yet, one cannot help but note the expressions on the faces of supporters nor that a large portion of coverage is around the trial and not the Party’s election campaign.  The question may be will there be enough time between the completion of the trials and the vote to let the Conservative Party recover their campaign?
