Roots on Booth’s Rock Trail

Booth’s Rock has several spots to look out over Rock Lake, each separated by some trees or other hazards.

This shot was taken on a tripod. The lens was shut down to f/22 to get as much depth of field as possible as well as the sense of dimension that comes with that.  I focused on the hyper-focal distance, which on the 28mm at f/22 is 121.6 cm.

The shot was composed to incorporate the foreground tree roots, middle ground rocks and background lake and forest.  The tree limb on the right adds to the movement.

I processed the image  with HD Effects. This image is composed by merging three images of exactly the same shot taken with different exposures. This is done because the camera is unable to capture the full range of light in a single shot. By taking three shots at different exposures a wider range of light is captured. The net effect is that you can see both the bright spots and those in the shadows.

In a second step, I processed the image through Photoshop Elements, with the Sponge Filter.  This processing introduces an artistic effect; a blotchy style.  This is the third in the series with more to come.  At this point I see two gaps to over come: [1] abstracting the elements of the image, and elevating them from the details [2] adjusting the colour scheme, abstracting it too from the natural-ocurring colours.
