From Koblenz we travelled down the Rhine to Boppard, which was near our next stop, Jakobsberg. When we were at the Koblenz tourist bureau we asked about golf courses in the area. We were referred to Jakobsberg Hotel and Golf Course. As it offered both golf and accommodations we choose to stay for two days.
The hotel is located on top of a hill over-looking the Rhine Valley and the city of Boppard. While about 15 KM away from the hotel by car, it is about 5 km from the Hotel if walking along the hiking trails.
The Hotel itself is situated on the grounds of what was once a 13th century monastery. The architecture and layout reflect this history, however the hotel itself is very new and suffers all the modern conveniences.
Certainly one of the key attractors to the resort was the golf course. The course itself was quite hilly. It offered wonderful views of the Rhine valley as well as local residences.
The course is reasonably challenging, with Red, Gold, Black and White tees running at 5195, 5950, 5450 and 6200 meters respectively. The Red and Black tees are intended for women. I played the gold tees, which had a rating of 71.5 and a slope of 127. The tee positions were marked cute little gummy-bear-like markers. I did wonder how far one could be driven.
