I have a tee-time this Saturday for 9:00 at Cardinal.
The weather forecast is promising but not conclusive. The agent at the course recommended calling first on Saturday morning. Regardless, although it looks as though it may be a bit chilly, compared with the alternative plans [1], golf on a cold day seems a much better and healthier choice.
9C is a little cold for golf balls. Apparently they work best at temperatures above 24C, and Hot Biscuits suggests an internal temperature of 40C is optimal [2].
I’m not sure how to get balls to that temperature without some device, but the rules of golf quite clearly state artificial devices are not allowed.
14-3/13.5 Golf Ball Artificially Warmed [3]
Q. Is the use of a golf ball that was purposely warmed during a stipulated round with a golf ball warmer, hand warmer or any such device a breach of Rule 14-3?
A. Yes. However, it would not be a breach of Rule 14-3 to use a ball that was artificially warmed prior to the stipulated round. (Revised)
