Photography: Workflow #3

in

I’ve completed a more extensive survey of approaches and practices that are available on the web. I have updated the high-level workflow accordingly. I’ve included activities related to trip planning and in the field. I’ll develop those further a little later on.

In my readings certain practices were reported by several different authors. These I took to be best practices. Recognizing these best practices has resulted in a couple of changes, specifically related to backing up the RAW files before doing any processing. Initially I had thought I would backup the photos after they were tagged. I’ll probably do both, but with a little intelligence.

Many of the workflows I reviewed described editing as rotating, cropping, sharpening and colour balancing pictures. Some described more elaborate editing, involving layering, fixing imperfections. The latter seem much more manually intensive, would apply to a smaller set of photographs and would require a heavier tool set. As such I separated them from a simpler filter and review process into an edit process.
