The value of Web 2.0–user contributed content–can easily be lost in the popular social networks such as Facebook through innumerable submissions of the mundane. But today, with the crash of a US Airways jet in the Hudson river, all that is swept aside and the value comes home quickly. This is real and meaningful stuff. The recent bombings in Mumbai and earlier last year, the earthquake in China all were widely reporting through Web 2.0 technologies, such as Twitter, as was the case here.
