Since purchasing an iPhone, I have developed a workflow to allow postings from that device to my blog. The objective of this workflow is to allow me to make daily posts, with photographs, yet not carry a laptop on my trips.
While I continue to take the bulk of my travel pictures with my G1, each day I try to take at least one shot with my iPhone that captures a theme of the day. When travelling outside of Canada my process is dependent on the availability of WiFi. Most hotels have WiFi, or cable (to which I can attach a wireless router). If all else fails I’ll succumb and visit a Starbucks. At present my procedure is as follows:
- Take picture with iPhone (this is an important and necessary step)
- Upload to flickr using Klick (WiFi access required)
- Log into flickr using the full web site, not the mobile site, and select uploaded picture (WiFi access required)
- Use the “blog this” feature in flickr to post this picture to my blog (WiFi access required)
- Log into my blog and tag the entry; make edits as necessary (WiFi access required)
When WiFi access is not available, I can continue to take pictures and when access does become available then I post like a mad man!
This approach is satisfactory for photographic entries that have limited text. For purely text entries, blogger allows one to e-mail posts. This is a better approach for text as the iPhone’s notepad can be used to create the entries which can be edited offline and posted when WiFi is available.
