We left the hotel early, 6:00 AM, so we could get to Condor Cross by 8:00AM. The guide said that the best viewing times where between 8:30 and 10:00. She was right.
The route to Condor Cross and return was very bumpy and dusty, but fortunately, it seemed to be at lower altitude so many of the symptoms I had been suffering were gone. The Canyon itself is deep, arid and the farmland it contains is well terraced.
The view of the Condors was spectacular. From our vantage point they often flew within 50-100m of us. While I was well prepared with long lenses, I could have used even my shorter 28-90mm lens.
Our return drive took us through the little town of Malca where we stopped and visited a once-spectacular church that had been recently rebuilt after an earthquake.
