No doubt retirement is inappropriate language for today’s culture where this event is not about a transition from the workplace to the kitchen table and solitaire or the couch and soap operas. Today this marks a career transition. Having said that, I don’t know what the correct word should be and therefore in all likelihood if some one used the term I would have no idea what they were talking about. In any case, it does mark something and a party celebrating the event is appropriate.
