The Great Egret is another large bird, standing between 80 and 180 cms. I took this shot in Okefenokee, east entrance. In this part of the swamp there is a driving route running several kilometres with stops along the way. At one of the stops is a boardwalk that takes visitors out into the swamp leading to a watch tower. We saw several egrets, woodpeckers, Ibis and other small birds along our walk. I carried my 400mm and tripod along the way in hopes of seeing sugar-plum fairies.
As with the image of the Heron, the shot out of the camera was quite ordinary. Again, I post processed the image by first converting it to black and white and then two-toning the image. This time with red and yellow. I prefer this composition over the heron. It is simpler, less cluttered. The background texture plays well against the bird’s silhouette. I was glad to be able to get the Egret’s eyes in the first shot.
