Fashion Shoot

in

I recently completed a fashion shoot; my first one.  Our first goal was to shoot high-key, in a style sometimes used by fashion photographer Corrine Day. “A high-key photo is basically white on white. This style of photography conveys a feeling of lightness and clarity.” [1]

Many of Day’s photographs were in black and white, but if otherwise, the colours were often muted.  She appeared to have little reluctance in exposing with some grain and a little higher contrast. Some of her shots appeared to be tinted in some way.

All shots I took were handheld, in a studio with natural light only; no flash. As it turned out to be a cloudy day, I found myself shooting wide open or close to that most of the time. As a result I frequently faced very narrow depths of field leaving no room for error. However, as the style we were trying to mimic was a little on the grainy side, that let me boost the ISO a bit beyond what I normally do.
