Roger’s Cove

The cabin where we stayed is located on Roger’s Cove (see on map), which in turn, is located on New World Island (an island off an island). Roger’s Cove is situated at the end of a tributary off route 346 (at Cobb’s Arm), a secondary road from route 340 that connects with the Trans-Canada Highway. It is 20 km to nearest major centre, Twillingate, with a population of 2,196 (in 2016). Twillingate has no franchise restaurants, such as MacDonald’s, Tim Hortons or Starbucks. Only the grocery store, Foodland, appears to be a chain.

There is no Google Street View coverage, which ends at the intersection of route 346 and 340. Roger’s Cove has only sporadic cellphone reception.

The major route, 340, connected Twillingate in 1973 when the final causeway between Twillingate Island and New World Island was completed. Prior to that, ferries connected the islands. Locals told me that transportation between towns in those times was often by boat.
