Place Settings #1

Once the food is prepared, the next logical step is to consume it. A place setting defines a location at the table. It provides the tools to eat. The arrangement aligns with convention.

The knife and fork are from my father’s mother. The ivory handle on the knife betrays a time when such components were acceptable, the ramifications were not considered. It also betrays the time before dishwasher-safe was a requirement of all utensils, a time when they were washed by hand.

The wine glass is from my mother’s mother. It is a white wine glass from the Rheinland, where she was from.
