Another article from my father’s parents, said by my father to be a bread knife. Though worn and difficult to make out in full, the markings on the blade provide some clue as to its origins. It looks like the knife was manufactured in Solingen Germany[1]. Decoding the remaining inscriptions and hallmark will be for another time.
The blade is a soft, flexible steel, not stainless, and easily sharpened. The edge is worn from sharpening, suggesting its long existence. A worn wooden handle supports that theory.
If it is a bread knife, the obvious question is whether it is connected with the bread plate?
[1]: Solingen is called the “City of Blades”, since it has long been renowned for the manufacturing of fine swords, knives, scissors and razors
