Bill reports they are providing healthcare to the local people. To avert the dangers of rainstorms, they have rebuilt their foxhole. to the top of a hill. He describes how they built their shelter.

Bill left Toronto to report into the US Army, in Detroit, on Wednesday, November 10, 1943. This is his first note back home, from Detroit Michigan. He has the day off as he does not need to report in until the next day, Thursday.

Bill reports that they received their first mail delivery in about a month, however, nothing for the replacements (he s a replacement). He then commits to writing evry second day, regardless of whether there is anything to write about. He then comments on a rainstorm and how their “foxhole” was leaking water, and their efforts…

Bill notes that this day is election day, and that he had a chance to vote 2 months ago, but declined because his vote would have been cast for Michigan ridings that he is unfamiliar with. He also notes that they have been able to read about the Philippine invasion for the first time.

Bill reports things are slow, however, the beer ration has been resumed. He reports that the area is swampy and there are a lot of mosquitos. He then comments on the different types of coconuts: green, yellow and brown.
