Toronto Urban Photography Workshop

This workshop, presented by Richard Hulbert, was on architectural photography touching on street and travel photography.  The latter two because, buildings are often bracketed by streets and travel is often to cities.  Architectural photography however is not just about the buildings, it includes the environment they participate in, that the create; the co-existence of buildings, nature, places and people.

  • If Architecture is about form and function, then Architectural Photography is about capturing and communicating that.
  • Architecture is an envelop for human activity: Organism; activity; environment
  • The order which we perceive things: Form; brightness; contrast; sharpness; focus; saturation
  • Keep camera level; keep verticals vertical
  • Bracketing: take 5 or 7 shots 1 ev apart.  In post pick best three of so.
