Macaroni & Cheese
Ingredients:
- 30 ml (2 tbsp) butter
- 30 ml (2 tbsp) all-purpose flour
- 1 ml (1/4 tsp) salt
- 3 ml (1/2 tsp) Worcestershire sauce
- 3 ml (1/2 tsp) mustard
- 250 ml (1 cup) milk
- 500 ml (2 cups) shredded Cheddar cheese
- pepper
- 300 ml (1-1/4 cup) uncooked macaroni
- 1 onion
- 1 tin stewed tomatoes (8 or 16 oz) [optional]
- 250 ml (1 cup) cubed ham [optional]
- 60 ml (1/4 cup) bread crumbs
Steps:
- Cook macaroni, drain and set aside
- Heat milk, set aside
- In a 1 l (4 cup) glass measuring cup melt butter (in microwave) then stir in flour, salt, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and pepper
- Gradually stir milk into flour mixture.
- Cook in microwave for about 3 minutes or until smooth and thickening, stirring once halfway
- Blend in 375 ml (1-1/2 cups) of cheese, stir in until melted
- In a casserole combine sauce, onions, tomatoes, ham and macaroni.
- Layer remaining cheese and bread crumbs over top of casserole.
- Cook in microwave at 60% for about 5 – 6 minutes or until bubbling, let stand covered for 5 minutes.
