Macaroni & Cheese

Ingredients:
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) butter
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ml (1/4 tsp) salt
  • 3 ml (1/2 tsp) Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 ml (1/2 tsp) mustard
  • 250 ml (1 cup) milk
  • 500 ml (2 cups) shredded Cheddar cheese
  • pepper
  • 300 ml (1-1/4 cup) uncooked macaroni
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tin stewed tomatoes (8 or 16 oz) [optional]
  • 250 ml (1 cup) cubed ham [optional]
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) bread crumbs
Steps:
  1. Cook macaroni, drain and set aside
  2. Heat milk, set aside
  3. In a 1 l (4 cup) glass measuring cup melt butter (in microwave) then stir in flour, salt, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and pepper
  4. Gradually stir milk into flour mixture.
  5. Cook in microwave for about 3 minutes or until smooth and thickening, stirring once halfway
  6. Blend in 375 ml (1-1/2 cups) of cheese, stir in until melted
  7. In a casserole combine sauce, onions, tomatoes, ham and macaroni.
  8. Layer remaining cheese and bread crumbs over top of casserole.
  9. Cook in microwave at 60% for about 5 – 6 minutes or until bubbling, let stand covered for 5 minutes.
