Bill writes a long letter, again, he talks about the mail. However, the delivery times seem to be improving. He talks about his father (my grandfather), who was on the board of trusties for their church, worked on installing a new furnace. The church he is referring to is the First Evangelical Lutheran Church on 116 Bond St. in Toronto. When I was studying at Ryerson (now Toronto Metropolitan University) I would pass by this church each day.

Bill talks about going down to the “radio car” to hear the news each day at 6PM. He also refers to “Bubi”, which was the nickname for his younger brother (my father). He goes on to describe how the natives are rebuilding a house for them using bamboo and banana leaves. After describing the national drink, Tuba, he reports he received 3 months pay, 81 “Victory Pesos”, which amounts to $40.50.
