Basement Archeology: Benny Goodman

in

I found a Benny Goodman CD that had belonged to my mother. The fact that it was a CD, rather than a vinyl LP, speaks to how some things, like music, are able to transition across technology. In its most recent reincarnation, I loaded this album onto my phone.

I recalled that Sing Sing Sing was among her favourites. It occurred to me that my granddaughter, Celena, will be able to hear this song; she will be able to hear the music her great grandmother listened to. I don’t know what music my great grandmothers listened to. My only image of them is from the unsmiling photographs prevalent of their times. I don’t think they listened to music.
