Google Trends

I noticed a new link on my Google Reader the other day: Trends. Clicking on it and I was transferred to the page below. The chart presents all sorts of detailed data in both tabular and graphic (Bar Chart) formats.

The Oxford American dictionary defines a trend as a general direction in which something is developing or changing. However as this data is historical not forward-looking, so the directional element is not explicitly offered and thus can only be speculated upon. As well the data is quite detailed, lacking abstraction towards something that might be meaningful, such as you spend too much time reading blogs.

No doubt this being version 1 we can expect better insights offered in future editions, and with that I’m sure to expect more appropriately targeted advertisements based on these reading habits.
