Predictors of success

in ,

As our children prepare to go out on their own, it is only natural that parents be concerned about their success. Why does this concern elevate itself right now? Won’t the twenty-some-odd years of parenting determine the likelihood of success? Well, I guess it’s human to think that there is one last thing we can say or do that will make the difference.

Probably not, but regardless here one observation from johnplaceonline:

The #1 determinant (and most accurate predictor) of success or failure is a concept many people have never heard of: self-efficacy.

Self-efficacy is defined as confidence in your ability to achieve a desired outcome, whereas self-esteem is a general feeling about your self-worth.

If you lack self-efficacy, you will fear failure. If you fear failure, you will never act. If you never act, you will never succeed. And if you never succeed, you will never develop self-efficacy

Accomplishment helps you learn to trust your skills.

An interesting observation, even for those of us who have already left home.
