Dead Roses

A couple observations related to red roses.  Earlier I commented that capturing the redness in a digital photograph was difficult.  I’ve had fewer difficulties with yellow. However, interestingly, capturing the red of dead roses seems easier.  I wonder if it has to do with the moisture (see below)?

The second observation is that the rose petals don’t fall.  The roses in the picture below have completely dried out and yet the buds remain intact. Not a single petal has fallen.  Is this some weird side effect of some genetic enhancement?
