Adams Run

The Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge has two plantations on the property.  We visited the plantation just outside of Adams Run South Carolina on the Edisto River. This unit was built in 1828 and operated as a rice plantation until the decline of the industry in the late 1800’s.  Subsequently the plantation was sold to be used as a hunting retreat. The new owners successfully managed the former rice fields and adjacent upland estates for a wide range of wildlife.
