Burning the Candle at Both Ends

in

We started our first full day with an early morning, pre-dawn march along the Kaibab Trail. This followed catching the sunset at Mohabe Point the night before. Kaibab Trail is good; spectacular views and before 7:00AM on a bright day, the light is perfect.  The trail is short at about 2 km return with an elevation change of 200 or so metres. Following that we took the shuttle along the “Red Line” and stopped at 6 of the 8 spots along the way.

One of the choices I made for this vacation was to schedule a photography tour first, followed by our own tour which will cover the Grand Canyon (South Rim), Lake Powell, Monument Valley, Zion Park, Bryce Canyon and Sedona.  I think this was the right choice.  While there was some overlap in the area covered, our photographer-guide took us to places we would not have found. But may be more importantly he left us with suggestions on where we should go next.

The shot below was taken on the Kaibab Trail.

Internet access in the Grand Canyon is limited to the lobby of the hotel we are staying at. The same holds true for our next stop at Lake Powell.  This means posts will be sparse and possibly erratic.
