Travel: Food

One of the propositions of travel is enjoying the local foods and drinks.

In Thüringen (Germany) the objective was to savour the Kartoffelkloesse (potato dumplings) unique to that area. While the recipe is deceptively simple, they are a most complex item to make, and the results we experienced proved that. None were as good as those made by my Grandmother. However, I won’t be too critical as I have never been successful in making them myself.

Meanwhile, in the rest of Germany, May through early June is Spargel (asparagus) Season. It is for these white asparagus that we tend to travel to Germany in May.

In Koblenz, at the junction of the Rhine and Mosel, we found a little patio restaurant just by the “Deutsches Eck” and enjoyed the Rieslings. It was at this same restaurant 2 years ago that I discovered that it is not that my wife does not like white wine, she only dislikes cheap white wine.

In Brugge we enjoyed the sea food. At the Park Restaurant we were served a magnificent dinner; my dish was both a visual and culinary work of art. Definitely a meal to remember and as it was our last dinner in Brugge the perfect way to cap our stay.
