This category can be easily confused with the Cityscapes category so I need to be sure that anything included here is really about a building. This photograph was taken in Trier, Germany. The building is the Porta Nigra, locate just on the edge of the Mosel river. The Porta Nigra is one of the gates leading into Trier dating back to Roman times. This shot seemed to capture some of the basic, yet artistic characteristics of the building. As well it offers a view through the ages up to modern time by looking through the gap between the pillars.
