Progress Report on Film: Process

in

I’ve paid a lot of attention to film this year.  Setting up a darkroom represented a level of commitment that has been rewarded with better and more consistent results. Consistency is a key objective. With so many variables, strict adherence to a process is essential to develop and maintain control over the results.

With progress in my process execution I’ve been able to reliably “push” and “pull” development times. This represents a significant step forward. In film the adage is expose for shadows, develop for highlights. What this means, is when you take the picture make sure the shadows are properly exposed (e.g., Zone 3 or 4) and then when you develop vary the time up or down to get the highlights right.  Without the ability to push and pull, developing for highlights is not possible.
