Post Mortem

The bulk of the migration is complete: the catalogue and meta data are moved, the tags are consolidated, and the events are merged.  I now have a single view spanning from the late 1800’s to current.  The oldest picture I have is from my great-great grandmother. I’m sure you can see the family resemblance.  It looks pre-1900, but a more precise time is difficult to determine (so in fact I’m guessing it is the oldest).  The newest was taken yesterday (that I’m quite certain of). What remains is the never-ending tinkering and tuning of tags and events.

I describe the content of photographs across several categories. For each of these is a hierarchy of tags, including: Action (or the activity taking place, e.g., hiking); Event (e.g., birthday); Family; Friends; Image Type (e.g., Landscape); Locale (e.g., Golf Course); Thing that is in the photograph (e.g., Animal, Boat.) For my manual cameras I will also include the equipment I used (film, developer, body and lens) and information about the exposure (e.g., aperture, speed, etc.) The image location is capture via the GPS, which in some cases is determined by the camera or manually by placing the photograph on a map.

I’d like to be able to say that all photographs have been completely and correctly coded along these lines.  But that is not the case. Regardless, being one who has a love-hate relationship with numbers I can provide the following observations:
