Gulf Coast

We’re on our way down to the gulf coast.  First destination is New Orleans, with stops in between.

We have a place reserved in the French Quarter, but other than that we will book as we go. If we find a spot we like, we’ll stay a while. If not we’ll move on.

It’s nice to be driving as that puts less restrictions on weight and volume; for example we have brought our bicycles.  Driving also avoids the hassles of airport security.

We crossed over at Detroit and while that crossing has a reputation for extended wait times, ours was less than 10 minutes and the boarder agent was quite pleasant (unlike the typical Pearson experience).

We spent the first night in Huber Heights, just outside Dayton Ohio.  For dinner we walked across the street to Rooster’s. A sports bar / restaurant and takeout.  There was a crowd at the front door, many waiting to pickup orders. Inside there was a football game being presented on the TVs.  It was very busy and noisy; there was a lot of activity. People cheering, waitresses waiting, people moving around.   The background noise was elevated but not intolerable. Service was prompt. No surprise, they served chicken.   They also had a good selection of beers; I had a Fat Tire Ale which was very good. Linda had a grilled chicken breast (on a bun), I had a chicken Parmesan (on a bun).  By showing our hotel key we were able to get a 10% discount on a meal that cost $16.00 with tax.

Roosters: a fun, casual joint.
