I received a gold pin in the mail yesterday. I was, needless to say, surprised. I’ll put it on my dress jacket, although I wear it rarely.
It came with a touching note from Bill; we’re colleagues you know. I hope the Bank is able to continue without me (since I announcement by departure the share price has dropped nearly 12%). But really, I don’t worry about it.
My only quibble with the note might be with the word retirement. It connotes a life style that is less active than the one I’m pursuing. I prefer to say I’m Independent. I think that is a better descriptor. It suggests that I can do what I want. Follow my interests. Enjoy having breakfast on the backyard patio while listening to the birds. Wearing white clothes (1). Take the time necessary to do something right. Well, within limits. I still have to listen to my wife.
