100 years ago today, my maternal grandfather arrived on the Canadian Pacific Railway’s ship “Montcalm” in Quebec City, from Czecho-Slovakia, via Hamburg Germany and Liverpool England, enroute to Brooklyn New York, where his family had moved after the demise of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
A few months earlier he had been released from a Russian Prisoner of War camp located in Siberia. His parents thought he was dead.
