I recently received an invitation from a gallery to present my work at a show on Street Photography. I considered submitting the photograph below. I thought it humorous.
However, the rules stipulated that I must have permission from each person included in the picture. I understand the reason a gallery would make this request. Yet, it is street photography; photography taken in public spaces. Moreover, this picture was taken in China, where cameras are everywhere, connected to back-end systems augmented by facial recognition, supported by tracking software, that are able to follow the movements of anyone, anywhere.
I wonder if Henri had to ask for signed releases from each person included in his photographs?
So I blocked out the faces of the individuals to protect their identity.
I have yet to decide whether I should submit the photograph.
