    In front of the house is an open field framed by a walking path.  Here one can find recreations of some of the gardens.  Plants which would have been used in Jefferson’s time are noted.  From the pinnacle of the loop one is presented with the classical view of the House.

    From our mountain resort in Massanutten we drove the one or so hours to visit Thomas Jefferson’s home in Charlottesville, named Monticello.  During our visit there we took an organized tour of the building.  The tour was quite extensive and included all 3 floors of the house.  Our guide offered insights into life in the house…

  • Dogwood

    Among the flowers that bloomed in Virginia was the dogwood tree.  These were often found in the woods lining the golf course, roads and highways. Often in concert with a purple flowering tree (possibly a crab apple).

    Among the plethora of reasons to go down to Virginie was to play golf.  Mid May, at least this year, was a good time to go down.  The leaves were just starting to unfold, and trees were in bloom.
