Coming Home


Today, as is often the case, I returned home late, after a series of meetings that continued throughout the day. As I walked in the door, my wife greeted me with a kiss and a cheerful “hello, how was your day.” I retreated to the den, where I turned on the TV and caught up on events. Subsequently, my wife came in with a fully cooked dinner.

I think she has been reading again.

I find it hard to believe this is really true…but it could be:

Whether the piece at hand is a genuine excerpt from a yet-undiscovered home economics textbook, it is nonetheless a relatively accurate reflection of the mainstream vision of a woman’s appointed role in post-war America, as evinced by such educational training films as “The Home Economics Story” [1]
