in

“The man shot the policeman with a gun.”

Things get equally complicated with words, especially qualifiers like adverbs and adjectives. The problem seems to be that they stimulate an emotional response, possibly driven by individual interpretation.

Naming things can become an unbelievably complicated process. One has to deal with the nuances and the emotions they may evoke. Often these things drive endless conversations on word choices that are different in the subtlest of ways.

If there weren’t multiple words to describe the same thing we wouldn’t have the word synonym. (alternate, substitute, equivalent, etc.)
