Live Threatre Shots #2

I attended the opening night of Bodas de Sangre running at the Palmerston Theatre (May – June 2009) here in Toronto. In this scene Margarita dances at the wedding.

Attending the play offered an opportunity to take some stage shots. After the first few shots I found I was able to shoot at f/1.4 and drop the ISO down to 200. The stage was far enough away (about 10 meters) so that depth of field was not much of an issue.

I chose this composition first because Spanish dance is iconic and this shot seemed to capture it well. Secondly, the lines were also good as were the position of the hands, the flailing dress, the head and the light on the subject, but subdued on the onlookers.
