In these images I wanted to move away from the literal, to abstract away from the concrete by injecting a touch of surrealism.
In the first composition I use rotten apples, located in different spaces. One is reflected (and distorted) through a glass of water. The background is defined by arcs of light (which come from the flashlights I use). However, the image is very crisp, which if I’m trying to evoke memory, doesn’t really make sense.
In the second and third image I added layers through photoshop to create a different feel. The way I see it, abstraction from the literal is first done in the composition, by using distortion (for example). The second image pulls us away from the literal by layering which changes the colours, richness and texture of the image. The third image might offer a conceptual level of abstraction by layering a grid over the image. The grid, by the way, is actual my screen door.
