Travelling work flow

in ,

Since purchasing an iPhone, I have developed a workflow to allow postings from that device to my blog.  The objective of this workflow is to allow me to make daily posts, with photographs, yet not carry a laptop on my trips.

While I continue to take the bulk of my travel pictures with my G1, each day I try to take at least one shot with my iPhone that captures a theme of the day.  When travelling outside of Canada my process is dependent on the availability of WiFi.  Most hotels have WiFi, or cable (to which I can attach a wireless router).  If all else fails I’ll succumb and visit a Starbucks. At present my procedure is as follows:

  1. Take picture with iPhone (this is an important and necessary step)
  2. Upload to flickr using Klick (WiFi access required)
  3. Log into flickr using the full web site, not the mobile site,  and select uploaded picture (WiFi access required)
  4. Use the “blog this” feature in flickr to post this picture to my blog (WiFi access required)
  5. Log into my blog and tag the entry; make edits as necessary (WiFi access required)

When WiFi access is not available, I can continue to take pictures and when access does become available then I post like a mad man!

This approach is satisfactory for photographic entries that have limited text.  For purely text entries, blogger allows one to e-mail posts.  This is a better approach for text as the iPhone’s notepad can be used to create the entries which can be edited offline and posted when WiFi is available.
