Regardless of the manual lenses, the reach I could get was quite nice. It allowed getting in tight, with some pretty good results. Esecially with Herons, that often stand perfectly still.

Yet in situations of high contrast, shooting wide open resulted in some colour fringe as seen on this Black-crowned Night Heron:
