Port au Choix

in

From Woody Point we drove north through Gros Morne Park to Port au Choix, and spent the night Jeannie’s Sunrise Bed & Breakfast. The purpose of this one-night stop was to break up the drive to St. Anthony which is located at the top of the Northern Peninsula. There we will visit the Viking Ruins at L’Anse aux Meadows and look for icebergs and whales.

In Port au Choix we visited the Pointe Riche Lighthouse and then Philip’s Garden Archeological Site where the artifacts of local residents dating back some 4,000 years can be found. It is possible to walk from the Lighthouse to Philip’s Garden, although we did on part of the 4 km trail. Later, we walked through the village, along the shore and watched workers rebuilding the Government Piers.

We had lunch and dinner at the Anchore Restaurant.  For lunch I had moose; dinner was cod fish and scallops.  While the presentation is basic, the food is excellent.
