Our practices are often a reflection of where we come from; our heritage and culture; our rituals; our moral compass. But these evolve; transgenerational change has the younger cohort rebel against the practices of their ancestors; tourism brings in new methods, standards, services; trade brings in new products, brands, businesses.
These forces of change influence our daily practices, how we do things. Our practices institutionalize our locality, how we are different, but as we globalize, elements of our practices are subsumed by elements from other places and cultures. Is this a path towards improvement; by sharing practices do we converge on ways of doing this and thus increase understanding?
