Our history offers many a sense of comfort as it links us back in time leaving us with a sense of continuity and if not control, a sense that the uncontrolled is contained.
When we see the architecture of the historical city, it appears simpler, quieter, which reinforces our sense, or desire to believe, that those are characteristics of the past. The old city of Dubai is recently reconstructed so it is clean and lacks the accumulation of grime and smells that historical towns often retain.
