Eclipse of the Harvest Moon

The magic of the camera is that it can catch the fleeting moment that while acquirable by the eye is often lost in the stream of images.  With the photograph, however, that instant is caught and can be considered at ones own pace without distraction.

And so it was for the highly-publicized eclipse of the harvest moon.  First since the 1980’s; not another until 2033. While with the eye one could be left with the impression that the whole sky was continuously covered in clouds, there were fleeting seconds when the moon peeked through.   To the observer of the photograph they are forgiven if they are left with the impression that the moon was visible for the whole evening.  But sadly it was not and by the time of the total eclipse, the cloud cover was too dense for the dwindling light to push through.  At least this was the case for me standing in the night at German Mills Settler’s Park, in Thornhill.
